Movies for March Madness!

March Madness

March Madness was organized by the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) in 1939.  Each spring, 68 college teams, play a single-elimination tournament to determine the winner.  The competition begins the 2nd week in March and the final game is played during the 1st week in April.

Here are some great movies for March Madness!

Coach Carter
Coach Carter, starring Samuel L. Jackson  

A successful business man returns to his former high school to coach the basketball team.  He signs a written contract with each player: respect each other, dress code and good grades.   His method turns the team into powerhouse.  When grades begin to slip, he benches the entire team until grades improve.

 

Glory Road,  starring Josh Lucas, Derek Luke and Austin Nichols

Don Haskins, head coach of the Texas Western Miners recruited the best talent he could find regardless of skin color.  In 1966 he led his team of 7 blacks and 5 whites to the NCAA championship game against Kentucky.

Hoosiers, starring Gene Hackman and Dennis Hopper

Small town coach and town drunk lead the high school team to the state championship in 1954.
